MARI Petroleum Limited announces a groundbreaking gas discovery in Sindh’s second Ghazij formation, reported on Friday. The company, drilling to 1,014 meters, officially confirms promising results in a recent statement.
Anticipating 6.57 million cubic feet/day post-drilling, this discovery significantly boosts regional energy resources. Gas pressure in Ghazij formation measured at 306 psi, with plans for test production pending regulatory formalities.. It is noteworthy that MPCL operates Mari D&PL as the Operator, holding a 100% working interest.
This revelation follows last year’s announcement by the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) of another significant oil and gas discovery, marking the second within the week. This discovery was made at Kot Nawab in Sinjhoro Block, located in Sindh’s Sanghar district.
OGDCL reported daily production estimates of 125 barrels of oil, 0.483 million standard cubic feet of gas, and 400 barrels of water. As per the company’s stock filing at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), OGDCL operates with a 76% stake in the Sinjhoro Block, accompanied by Orient Petroleum Inc (19%) and Government Holdings Private Limited (5%) as joint venture partners. These developments collectively underscore the growing importance of Pakistan’s energy sector and its potential contributions to the nation’s economic progress.
