The court decided there was no reason to keep EX-PM Imran Khan in jail. Because others accused on May 9 were already out on bail. But he’ll stay in jail because he’s found guilty in other cases.
On February 10, a special court that deals with terrorism cases gave permission for EX-PM Imran Khan, to leave jail. This is related to 12 cases about the attacks on military buildings that happened on May 9.
The Anti Terrorist Court (ATC) Judge Malik Ejaz Asif EX-PM Imran Khan, who started the PTI party, leave jail. Imran Khan had to pay Rs. 0.1 million for each of the 12 cases. Which included attacks on the General Headquarters (Pakistan Army) and the Army Museum.
The court decided it wasn’t right to keep EX-PM Imran Khan (who is 71 years old) in jail because everyone else involved in the May 9 cases was already out on bail. However, Khan will remain in jail due to being found guilty in many other cases.
This decision by the court came after candidates supported by Khan’s party won 100 seats in the National Assembly. Furthermore, the court granted permission for Shah Mahmood Qureshi, a former Foreign Minister and a staunch supporter of Khan’s party, to leave jail in 13 cases related to the same situation. Khan and Qureshi faced accusations in these cases on February 6th.
In court, The EX-PM Imran Khan, informed the judge that he had been unfairly taken into custody on May 9 while he was at the Islamabad High Court.
Imran Khan got involved in many cases because of the violence that happened on May 9. This happened after he was arrested for allegedly doing something wrong. In Rawalpindi, cases were filed against him for things like attacking the gate of the General Headquarters (GHQ) and causing trouble in a sensitive institution’s office.
Khan said he didn’t do the things mentioned in the reports filed for these cases. When Qureshi got out of Adiala jail before, the police from Punjab took him away because of a case about the attack on the GHQ.
